It's been a while since our last Fiber Artist Feature, so I'm excited to get back into the swing of things! This week I have an
outstanding artist to introduce you to. I hope you'll take a minute to get to know her, browse through her shop, and enter to win a skein of her art yarn. Introducing Michelle Dunbar from
Sassy Yarn Barn!
I have worked with a number of Michelle's yarns and let me just say that I'm in love! Each of her yarns is so incredibly soft and silky smooth, and the colorways are unique, bright, and vibrant. It has been a pleasure collaborating with Michelle and I hope you'll enjoy her yarns as much as I have.
Use discount code "ATB15" for 15% off your purchase in her shop!
Tell us about yourself in 2-3 sentences.
I am a wife to an absolutely amazing and supportive husband, the mother of 2 super great kiddo’s! Justin my son is 17 and a Senior in Highschool, my Daughter Dakotah is 13 and in the 7th grade. We live in the fabulous countryside and enjoy the slow paced lifestyle!
When and why did you start spinning, and when did it turn into more than just a hobby?
I started spinning on a drop spindle in 2010 and finally purchased my fabulous wheel in September of 2011! I spun yarn as a child and loved it so I was so thrilled to have the opportunity to *re*find my love!
Describe your artistic style when it comes to dying and/or spinning. What inspires you?
I wouldn’t peg any *style* to my spinning, I just love to create gorgeous yarns! My styles will vary on the mood I’m in! Some days I’m feeling funky and like to whip up some fabulous textured art yarns! Some days I’m feeling cuddly and spin up lush super soft squishy-ness!! My inspiration I would say is drawn off of colors and texture. I am a through and through color junkie! I LOVE color! So I paint my world with it. :)
Tell us about your favorite fiber(s) to work with.
Oh favorite fiber?! How do I count the ways….I’m really most drawn to superwash merino’s but I also LOVE mixing it up a bit! So for me my favorite “fiber” would be a mix of fibers into a fiber batt! Little bit of everything!
Of all the yarns you have ever dyed and/or spun, show us a photo of your very favorite. What makes it your favorite?
Oh this is definitely an easy answer for me! I just recently spun it but have been hoarding the fiber forever and a day! I love it so much I haven’t even made anything with it! I’m thinking of keeping it as a centerpiece in my living room. ;)
Can you show us a picture of your workspace?
Believe it or not my work space is currently in my living room!! I’m pretty comfortable in here so it’ll probably stay that way LOL!!!
This is *Lucy* my gorgeous wheel!!
More of Michelle's scrumptious yarns!
